Open Day pictures
Here are some of the pictures by Laure Weill that best captured the spirit of the Open Day :)
As soon as the experiment tables were set up, we had people around and queues forming!
The kids loved the easier activities!
Remember how many times we needed to get more copies of these?
People of all ages were asking questions and giggling while Real Scientists gave them instructions at the workshops.
Not only most of the volunteers turned up, but some of our co-workers surprised us cool with ideas during the day :D
Toddlers and pre-school were not left out!
About 500 people attended the guided visits, clogging the initial list before lunchtime and even the massive, improvised final tours with up to three versions of the visit per shift!
It was funny how sometimes you would bump into another group, if one of our labs' presentations had been a bit longer than expected!
The people attending the café seemed really interested. The audience, of about 150, took their chance to ask all their questions to the three speakers.
...And, finally, the batucada & Gadjo!
But the best was seeing how hundreds of people took our challenge and came to visit us, enjoyed the day at the PRBB and left with a smile.
AND the volunteers also had fun and a really warm feedback during the whole day!

Only two days left!
We have been seeing each other a lot lately. Meetings, mailings, lists and more lists made to get organized. Sometimes we can't believe the amounts of volunteers, other moments we can't get them to choose a definite shift to place them at.
But everything is running through fine!
If you're coming to help, please try and be here early to help setting up from 9:30 to 11:00!
If you are not on the first shifts, please try and be here on time -a bit earlier than your shift to get your volunteer kit.

We're getting ready for the big day!

Anyone with a bit of time to hand out a couple of leaflets in different areas of the town, hang a poster or two, or wants to help trodding through Barceloneta to hand leaflets out in person round the neighbourhood, please pass by PRBB Communication dept. and ask for promotional stuff.

Open Day: 4th October 2008
The PRBB Open Day is almost here!
The volunteer recruitment has been a great success, with almost a hundred volunteers in total between the SmS Open Day organization team and the aproximately 80 new volunteers!

¿Quiénes somos?
Science Meets Society (SmS) se originó como un grupo de estudiantes de doctorado e investigadores post-doctorado de CRG (Centre de Regulacio Genomica) y fue creciendo hasta decidir la ampliación como un proyecto en el que participan investigadores y trabajadores en general de varias instituciones dentro del PRBB (Parc de Recerca Biomedica de Barcelona).
Nuestra meta es combinar la vida social con la actividad científica y promover la comunicación y divulgación de la ciencia. En este sentido, SmS apoya iniciativas de miembros del PRBB motivados para compartir sus ideas y llevar a cabo proyectos relacionados con la comunicación científica y la percepción de la ciencia en la sociedad.
Hasta ahora nuestra acción principal ha sido la realización de tres Cafés Científicos de gran éxito. Como plan inmediato, en estos momentos estamos ultimando los preparativos para la Jornada de Puertas Abiertas, y estamos organizando de un concurso de escritura creativa, una serie de cortometrajes documentales y otro gran evento para celebrar el año de Charles Darwin , previsto para febrero del 2009.
Science Meets Society cuenta para llevar a cabo la jornada de puertas abiertas con más de 80 voluntarios externos, provenientes de las diversas instituciones dentro del PRBB.
Nuestra meta es combinar la vida social con la actividad científica y promover la comunicación y divulgación de la ciencia. En este sentido, SmS apoya iniciativas de miembros del PRBB motivados para compartir sus ideas y llevar a cabo proyectos relacionados con la comunicación científica y la percepción de la ciencia en la sociedad.

Who is SmS?
