Science and Science Fiction. Where is the limit?
Is working on a scientific project like living in a Science Fiction novel ? Is reality larger than fiction? Are there scientific projects that owe to proposals of fiction novels? Is teletransportation possible? Will the solution to everything be in a pill?
This Scientific Cafe will try to find similarities and differences between two disciplines that see science from different points of view.
Current research can often seem science fiction and the stories of Sci-Fi may, in a near future, become reality. With the help of our speakers we will discuss about the creative mechanisms that both writers and researchers use to bring up their projects. Also, we will analyze the role of science fiction as a tool of scientific divulgation and we will find out if the real science and science fiction evolve in a parallel way.
The guests shall be:
- Miquel Barceló. Dept. Llenguatges i Sistemes Informàtics, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Science fiction author, editor and translator.
- Luis Serrano. Programa Biologia de Sistemes. Subdirector of the Centre de Regulació Genòmica (CRG).
